Štrekna
The 24-kilometre paved route, completely without traffic, is a paradise for families with children and seniors also due to safety reasons.
Here you will catch a glimpse of the green Pohorje’s riches and, at the same time, the highest location of a church in Slovenia. The 24-kilometre cycling route in the Mislinja Valley, between the Otiški Vrh, Slovenj Gradec, Mislinja and Gornji Dolič, is entirely paved and isolated from traffic. This is exactly why it is perfect for family cycling trips or more relaxed couple cycling.
Avoiding an ascent, the route takes you through a smaller tunnel, making the trip even more entertaining. Štrekna is known for having one of the best infrastructures of cycling routes in Slovenia.
And why Štrekna? Its somewhat peculiar name comes from the fact that it follows the route of a former railway (štrekna). You must make a stop in one of the regulated resting stops or stray from the route, as it only makes the trip more interesting. There are still some well-preserved former railway facilities – among others the bridge in Slovenj Gradec – and while you are there, do not forget to visit the city centre.
