Štrekna
Štrekna represents one of the most beautifully arranged Slovenian cycling routes. Along the abandoned railway line, you will discover new points of interest in a relaxed ride on two wheels. Here, you will catch the richness of the green Pohorje with one eye and the highest church in Slovenia with the other. The new section through the Huda Luknja gorge provides an attractive feature.
The 35-kilometer cycling route through the Mislinja Valley and lthrough the Huda Luknja gorge, between Otiški Vrh, Slovenj Gradec, Mislinja, Gornji Dolič and Velenje is completely asphalted and removed from other traffic. That is why it is ideal for a family cycling trip or a more leisurey cycling trip for two.
To avoid having to climb a hill, the route passes through 6 tunnels and over numerous bridges and overpasses, which will make the journey even more fun and attractive.
And why Štrekna? Its somewhat peculiar name comes from the fact that it follows the route of a former railway (štrekna). You must make a stop in one of the regulated resting stops or stray from the route, as it only makes the trip more interesting. There are still some well-preserved former railway facilities – among others the bridge in Slovenj Gradec – and while you are there, do not forget to visit the city centre.
