Taste Koroška
Koroška cuisine is based on simplicity, quality local ingredients, and respect for tradition, which has been preserved here with exceptional care. When a housewife invites you with the words "Prite jést!" (Come and eat!), she is not just inviting you to the table, but into a world of flavors, customs, and hospitality that are still alive in Koroška. A special place is held by rye bread, prepared according to an old recipe with homemade sourdough, which is considered one of the most important foods in Koroška cuisine. Alongside it, numerous dishes have developed over time, such as trente, pogače, potice, šarklji, nudlni, and povitneki, among which kločevi nudlni with dried pears are today one of the most recognizable Koroška dishes.
Koroška is not just a destination you explore, but a place you truly taste
Homegrown food is the pride of tourist farms, inns, and other providers who believe in the power of local, seasonal, and homemade. Everyday Koroška meals cannot be imagined without turnip soup, turnip sauce, flik, and other dishes created from simple ingredients but with a great sense of flavor. The so-called Koroška lunch, traditionally served at important life events, is still part of the menu at better inns today. Important culinary specialties of the region also include quality cured meats, mežerli, prtene klobase, baked blood, tousti grumpi, and distinctive zabele, which give Koroška food its full and distinctive flavor. Among the specialties is also Koroška cottage cheese with onion and pumpkin seed oil, often served together with cured meats, and let us not forget mošt (cider), which in Koroška is a drink for every day and celebration.
Stunning views, delicious taste
Koroška cuisine can be homely and hearty, but also surprisingly refined. Alongside traditional dishes, modern interpretations of local flavors await you here, prepared with creativity and respect for heritage. In addition to authentic, traditional cuisine, Koroška also offers contemporary gastronomic experiences for those seeking something more. In numerous restaurants, local flavors are given a new, creative form – with premium ingredients, thoughtful presentation, and modern preparation techniques. Here, tradition intertwines with innovation, and the result is unforgettable culinary experiences that delight even the most demanding guests.
