Elizabeth’s Fair in Slovenj Gradec
Fairs have been held in Slovenj Gradec since the Middle Ages, when market rights were granted to the town around 1251, followed by city rights in 1267. The fair tradition has been preserved to this day. Three general fairs, known as ‘kramar’ fairs (Joseph’s, Pancras’, and Elizabeth’s), are traditionally organized in the city center of Slovenj Gradec.
This year, Elizabeth’s Fair will take place on Tuesday, November 17, at the Main Square and Freedom Square in Slovenj Gradec.
Exhibitors and vendors from all over Slovenia and abroad participate in the fairs. A variety of consumer goods, arts and crafts products, culinary offerings, and farm produce can be found at the stalls. An increasing number of vendors also come from Slovenj Gradec and other towns in the Koroška region.
Fairs in Slovenj Gradec have long been intended not only for the sale and purchase of goods, but primarily for socializing. For this reason, they are well-attended and, in today’s fast-paced life, represent a welcome enrichment of the events in the city center.
