Radlje Manor
Mahrenberg Mansion, today known as Radlje Manor, is situated above the former medieval royal road, at an important crossroads of medieval and modern-era routes. Its location testifies to the historical significance of the area, which throughout centuries was connected with trade, nobility, monastic life, and the development of Radlje ob Dravi. The current building is designed in an L-shape, formed by the northern and western wings. It is covered by a steep brick hipped gable roof, and its architectural elements have been significantly altered over time. Despite numerous changes, important architectural elements have been preserved, including the ground-floor courtyard arcades in the northern wing, internal arcades, and vaulted ceilings, which still bear witness to the mansion's former appearance and character.
A Renaissance sandstone portal with the year 1666 gives the building special value. The portal was most likely moved from the Radlje Dominican monastery either before or after World War II. It features a marble plaque with the coats of arms of Sigfrid Mahrenberg and the prioress of the Dominican monastery, Maria Ivana Linzer, further emphasizing the mansion's connection to the history of the Mahrenberg lords and the monastic heritage of the area. Today, the mansion plays an important cultural and museum role. It houses a branch of the Koroška Regional Museum, where visitors can view permanent and temporary exhibitions. A particularly interesting part of the museum's presentation includes recently discovered Roman excavations, found in the area of the new Radlje bypass, which place the story of the area even deeper into the past.
The manor is surrounded by an English park, designed in the 19th century. The park complements the historical character of the building and offers visitors a peaceful space for a stroll among numerous tree species. Among them, the Chinese fir stands out, one of the rare representatives of this species in this part of Europe, which also gives the park significant dendrological value. Radlje Manor is thus not merely an architectural monument, but a place where stories of noble heritage, monastic history, archaeological finds, museum activities, and a carefully designed park landscape intertwine.
