Rafting journey

Accompanied by an old rafter’s accordion, visitors sing a folk song or two and take a souvenir photo. Friendly rafter girls serve them Koroška rye bread, salt, and homemade spirits. As they glide calmly along the surface of the green Drava, they learn about the life and work of rafters in the past and discover the secrets of a rich rafting tradition. They also experience a true rafter’s initiation, where newly minted rafters must prove their readiness and skills to be accepted into the rafter guild.

Programme

- welcome at the landing with a greeting from the steersman,
- refreshments with bread, salt, and homemade spirits,
- start of the cruise with a presentation of the rafting tradition through time,
- presentation, demonstration, and try-out of rafting skills,
- refreshments with a tasting of homemade cider (Carinthian must) or apple juice, and a traditional snack in the rafter’s bundle,
- rafter’s initiation with the admission of newly minted rafters into the rafter guild,
- conclusion of the rafting journey with a rafter’s celebration

Terms

Groups of more than 20 people and travel agencies are offered additional benefits. Advance booking is required for the rafting trip. The cruise is safe, calm, and suitable for all generations. The rafting trip with the programme lasts 2 hours and takes place in all weather, as the raft is covered by a roof. Visitors are advised to arrive at the rafting landing at Gortina 24, 2366 Muta, 30 minutes before the reserved time. The route runs along the most beautiful section of the Drava River over a distance of 4 km, and the raft returns to the starting point. The rafting season runs from April to the end of October.
