In the torrential Mučevo gorge near Žerjav, two challenging, highly demanding secured climbing routes have been established, which particularly appeal to experienced via ferrata enthusiasts. The routes traverse steep rock sections and offer considerable exposure in certain places, requiring good physical fitness, concentration, and appropriate experience.
Two variants are available. The more difficult red route is rated D, reaching difficulty E in certain sections, making it suitable primarily for well-prepared and experienced climbers. The easier blue route is rated B, occasionally C, but nevertheless requires caution and basic knowledge of movement on secured climbing routes.
The starting point for the via ferratas is in Žerjav. The climbing routes overcome approximately 150 meters of elevation gain and are around 250 and 350 meters long respectively. Depending on the chosen route and pace, the ascent will take approximately 75 to 120 minutes. Use of the routes is at your own risk. The use of appropriate safety equipment is mandatory, particularly a helmet, climbing harness, and self-belay kit, and strict adherence to all on-site instructions is required.
