Pohorje Regional Park

Welcome to the mysterious embrace of Pohorje's forests

Pohorje

Pohorje is an important nature conservation area, also on a European scale. With the aim of preserving nature and directing visitor access and development, the broader protected natural area of Pohorje Regional Park was established in 2024. It covers just under 52 km² of the upper part of Pohorje, approximately above 1,200 m above sea level, and extends across three Slovenian regions: Koroška, Podravska, and Savinjska. Three interpretation centers for visitors are being developed at the edge of the park: at Kope, Rogla, and Trije Kralji.

Petelinovka at Kope – through play into the mysterious world of the capercaillie.

Petelinovka

At Kope, in the immediate vicinity of the facility owned by the Municipality of Mislinja, Center Kope, an experiential area called Petelinovka has been set up, primarily intended for children. With the help of play-educational elements, they learn more about the endangered animal species, the capercaillie, through play. Petelinovka is also the starting point for the Capercaillie Hiking Trail, which runs along the scenic ridge of Pohorje, along a gentle mountain path, to the Ribniška Koča hut, 6 kilometers away. The trail is equipped with benches and points for learning about the capercaillie's habitat.
