Topla Landscape Park 

Topla Landscape Park is a protected mountain valley beneath Mount Peca, combining exceptional natural and geological heritage, old Carinthian homesteads, mining history, and the habitat of numerous rare plant and animal species.

Topla Landscape Park is located near Črna na Koroškem in the upper Mežica Valley and is considered one of the most picturesque mountain valleys in Slovenia. Together with the summit of Mount Peca and the surrounding slopes, it has been protected since 1966 due to its exceptional natural beauty, preserved cultural landscape, and special landscape value.

The Topla Valley is closely connected to the life of old Carinthian farms, which have shaped the distinctive character of the area over the centuries. The Burjak, Florin, Kordež, Fajmut, and Končnik homesteads bear witness to the rich ethnological heritage, thoughtful architecture, and the connection between people and the demanding mountain environment. An important part of the valley's identity is also its mining past, particularly lead-zinc ore, rare minerals, and fossils that reveal the rich geological history of the area beneath Mount Peca.

Topla Landscape Park covers 1,345 hectares and extends from Burjak Hut at 657 meters above sea level to the summit of Mount Peca at 2,126 meters. It is characterized by an alpine climate, long winters, short summers, diverse bedrock, the torrential Topla stream, mountain forests, meadows, scree slopes, dwarf pine, and rocky slopes. These habitats support numerous rare plant and animal species, including Zois' bellflower, capercaillie, dwarf pine, stoat, golden eagle, peregrine falcon, and three-toed woodpecker.
